Situated
at the gateway to Long Island's "Gold
Coast", the Glen Cove Yacht Club played
host to America's Sail in 1998. The
waters of the Club's anchorage on
Hempstead Harbor that once saw the
luxurious yachts of J.P. Morgan and
Cornelius Vanderbilt lying at anchor
welcomed 13 "Tall Ships" including the
3-masted barque LIBERTAD from Argentina
and the replica of the Swedish
man-o-war KALMAR NYCKEL. In
addition to other "Tall Ship" visits in
1999 and 2000, the Club has hosted
Dragon Boat Races, served as a weigh-in
station for the annual Blue Fish Derby,
and as a support base for Swim Across
America.
